CCW/Self Defense with Handguns - this class covers the use of handguns for self defense. We teach safety, justifiable use of force and how to operate a handgun. The class has about hours four of lecture and discussion, with questions and answers, plus about 90 shots through your handgun. This class is offered once a month from April through October. Often people want to become more familiar with guns whether for self-defense or recreational shooting and this is the place to start. Many of our students want to have a gun around for defensive purposes but do not necessarily want to carry a concealed handgun.

Safety – we teach people how to be safe

Legal aspects of self defense will be discussed. We are not lawyers; we give general education but not legal advice.

The class addresses the justifiable use of lethal force.

The class is not about competitive shooting, recreational shooting or hunting.

Guns
-No single action revolvers – double action revolvers are OK
-Small guns (pocket pistols) can be difficult to manipulate and to shoot accurately
-Double action automatics (SIG P220 series, Berretta 92, Ruger P series) require learning two different types of trigger pulls, one of which is over 10 lbs.
-Glock, XD, Smith and Wesson M&P, Walther PPQ and PPS, HK VP, SIG P320, 1911, and double action revolvers are the easiest to learn how to use.

Written test:
-All questions and answers for the test will be given well before the test.

Shooting test:
-Paper plate at 21 feet - you will have multiple attempts to pass with 10 hits on the plate no time limit. You can come back at a later time and re-shoot if you do not pass.

We teach you how to shoot your gun. We will discuss and demonstrate different designs, but we don’t have time to cover all the guns available

Concealed carry laws are covered.

Intermediate Handgun - This class is for people who have taken a CCW/personal protection class and who can operate their pistol safely. This will be one day of shooting- all range time: safety, draw and fire, reloads, malfunction clearing, 1 yd to 15 yd targets, multiple targets, multiple shots, moving while shooting. $125, eye and ear protection, pistol, 300 rounds, holster, sturdy belt, 3 magazines, magazine pouch
Advanced Handgun - This class emphasizes the dynamics of armed conflict. Building on the foundations established with gun handling, we move into how to operate in your environment and situation. You will learn how to shoot around walls and furniture, in low light and with multiple assailants, sometime even with only one hand. You will address threats from contact distance out to 50 yards. In a gunfight, both you and the assailants are moving. $125, eye and ear protection, pistol, 300 rounds, holster, sturdy belt, 3 magazines, magazine pouch
Tactical Pistol - Most of this class will have you in scenarios where you have to decide what to do. You will make decisions on how to address threats in your house, in your car, in public places and in the dark. One third of the class will be in low light conditions. $150, eye and ear protection, pistol, 300 rounds, holster, sturdy belt, 3 magazines, magazine pouch
